Hazel (Clark) M. Weierter July 19th 1939 – Oct 12th 2022
Long term resident of William Street, Kirkcaldy, Mrs. Hazel Weierter, age 83, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2022 at Abbeyfield House Care Home in Kirkcaldy.
She was born on July 19, 1939 to the late Margaret and Melville Clark (nursing matron and master baker) in Forres, Moray. Her formative years during the war provided the influence to the rest of her life. A caring and loving woman that dedicated her life to her family and service to the local community.
Moving to Edinburgh in the late 50’s where she met her future husband, Fred, ‘at the dancin’, they moved to William Street after marriage in 1964 and never left.
Hazel served on the local Kirkcaldy District council for many years serving a couple of different districts over the years including the wards of Dunnikier, Fair Isle and Templehall. Over that time, she was involved in many committees including but not limited to Housing, Parks and Recreation and the Licensing Board. She also served on the Old Kirk Trust, Fife Historic Buildings Trust, The Civic Society and the Kirkcaldy West Community Council. Also a fierce advocate for local healthcare system and keeping services in Kirkcaldy.
This strong desire to give back to the community was driven by her faith, raised Church of Scotland in her hometown she continued her worship upon moving to Kirkcaldy and latterly became an elder in the church serving the Linktown Parish.
There were two more loves in her life apart from her beloved Fred – the bard and the desire for Scottish Independence. The former drove in part the latter. In addition to all her other activities Hazel was a long serving President of the local Poosie Nansie Ladies Burns club – her extensive collection of historic Burns works have been donated to the National Burns Centre.
Hazel loved traveling – from in her teens with the ministry to latterly to visit her family annually in the US. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, dancing and whisky. Hazel will be missed deeply by her loved ones and those who knew her.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Vivien and son-in-law William Bevich; sister, Rhona Davidson; grandchildren, Louis and Cameron Bercier; niece and nephews, Carlyn Rafferty, Graham and Ewan Davidson. Preceded by her much-loved husband Fred Weierter, brother James Clark and niece Lorna Davidson.
Hazel left her body to medical research at St. Andrews University, a memorial to celebrate her life is being held at Abbeyfield Care home on November 9th at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be left for Abbeyfield or online to Gift Funds: The Hambone Gift Fund – Gift Funds for St. Jude. – https://tinyurl.com/8dzysu56 .
